This course takes the form of a series of prepared group debates/talks, in which students will be expected to both prepare a topic for discussion with relevant talking points and participate in a range of group debates and discussions. These group meetings will require a range of preparation and background reading. Students will be expected to actively participate in each debate to express themselves on a range of given talking points. The aim of the course is to encourage students to use a range of English accurately, responsively and for a range of purposes related to the nature of debate and rhetoric. Students will be expected to incorporate key vocabulary and show their consideration of key talking points. Assessment will come from a combination of the students' prepared talk and moderation of the following discussion and their participation in other debates led by their peers or teachers.
