In this course, students will get acquainted with the basic approaches to the study of political activism, especially with different traditions and approaches to the study of social and political movements. The first part of the course will focus on the introduction of basic concepts and theories of social and political movements that are used in current research on social movements. The second part will focus on the specific situation of social movements in the Czech Republic. First, students will get acquainted with the context of post-communist countries, and then learn more about selected areas of social and political movements in the Czech Republic. Students will gain a basic overview of the field of social movements and will be able to apply the basic concepts and theories of social movements to selected movements operating in the Czech Republic.
