Philosophy is, literally, the love of wisdom. Wisdom is a capacity for discerning the true, the good, and the beautiful in that which is these things, and discerning its absence in that which is not. In this course, we look at philosophical literature as wisdom literature, and we trace some of the general views that have been developed within different philosophical traditions. Particular emphasis is placed on the notion that wisdom helps one live a good life.
