As an introduction to the seminar, various theories of secularization will be presented and discussed with regard to the past and present religious landscape in various Central and Eastern European countries. We will become familiar with religious affiliation, processes of secularization, interactions between religion and politics, and religious and non-religious education in European countries that were once under socialist rule. Fundamental to this will be the discussion of terms such as ?religion?, ?worldview?, ?non-religiosity?, ?atheism?, ?religious indifference?, ?secularization?, ?secularity?, ?ideology? and ?secularism?. Working definitions should be created together in order to be able to analyze, evaluate and discuss exemplary source material.
