Gender relations and the organisation of one's livelihood are fundamental characteristics of a society. In this course we will take a look at the interrelation between these two fields, beginning with the early modem era and spanning the period until our days. Social and political developments influence and shape the division of labour, the ideas about who should be in charge of what kind of work. In this context we also get to discussing the contested distinctions between work and non-work.
A list of texts will be provided (and the texts made available electronically, preferably on a learning platform of the University of Hradec Králové) as preparatory reading for each lesson. Each topic will be presented and discussed. At the end of the term, students are required to write a short paper on a subject of their choice within the framework of the course.
