The aim of the course is to inform students about the historical foundations of social work in the Czech Republic and abroad and with the contribution of its most important representatives. The student will gain basic knowledge about the origin and development of social work in the history of mankind. This is understood as a basic prerequisite for understanding current methods of this social discipline. The aim is also to understand the definition and concept of social work in the current context, the definition of selected related key terms and the topic of education in social work. Content: 1. Introduction to the subject Lesson content: Introduction to the objectives and content of the course. Introduction to the conditions for obtaining credit. 2. History of social work Lesson content: History of social work (ancient forms of institutionalized solidarity, development of Christian philanthropy (1st - 10th century), main forms and methods of social care and mutual solidarity (11th - 15th century), mercy versus repression (16th - 18th century) , the constitution of social work at the end of the 19th century, the influence of church initiatives, the influence of the women's movement). 3. Foreign representatives of social work development Lesson content: Foreign Representatives of Social Work Development - Florence Nightingal, Octavia Hill, Jane Addams, Mary Richmond, Alice Solomon, A. G. Hamilton, H. H. Perlman. 4. History of Czech social work Lesson content: Czech lands and the tradition of social work until 1945, social work in our territory since the second st. war until 1989, changes in the field of social work after 1989, current problems of Czech social work. 5. Important personalities in the history of Czech social work Lesson content: Personalities of the history of Czech social work - Alice Masaryková, Marie Krakešová. 6. Definition and concept of social work 1 Lesson content: Definition of social work, exclusivity of social work from other helping professions, public perception of social work, concept of social work, identity of social work. 7. Definition and concept of social work 2 Lesson content: Attributes of the profession, questions about the professionalization of social work, the prestige of social work in society. 8. Definition and concept of social work 3 Lesson content: Defining the concept of "social functioning" as a key to defining the goal of social work. Three small paradigms of social work. 9. Selected key concepts in the context of social work Lesson content: Humanity, solidarity, dignity, power, help, normality, client (service user), social worker, competence in social work. 10. Ethics in social work Lesson content: Ethics in social work, code of ethics for social workers, professional competence. 11. Model of social work performance in the Czech Republic and quality standards Lesson content: Model of social work performance in the Czech Republic, social services, quality standards of social services, quality standards of social and legal protection of children. 12. Education in social work Lesson content: Possibilities of education in social work in the Czech Republic, Council for the Development of Social Work, Association of Educators in Social Work, Minimum standard of education in social work ASVSP, supervision, professional periodicals, basic principles of creating a professional text. 13. Final summary Lesson content: Summary, reflection. The course ends with the award of credit. Credit in the form of a written test - verification of basic knowledge acquired in the course. The credit test covers the whole range of curriculum with its questions, the required range of knowledge for successful completion of the test corresponds to the required literature.
