The main aim of the course is to introduce and analyse key concepts, paradigms and problems of international relations. Basic theoretical concepts will be applied in the historical perspective to the crucial stages of the development of international relations. Theories will introduce all relevant theoretical approaches (realism, neorealism, idealism/liberalism, Marxism, constructivism), and key categories of international relations such as state, violence, power or ethics will be analysed in context. The pivotal period in the history of international relations will not be studied in chronological order but will be analysed on the basis of individual paradigms and theories. Considerable space will be devoted to non-European regions (especially Africa and Latin America) with an emphasis on the complicated applicability of some theories of international relations.
