The aim of the course is to become familiar with the ways and differences of probabilistic and statistical way of thinking; to explain meaning of most widely used probabilistic and statistical terms; to clarify usefulness of elementary statistical and probabilistic measures; to prepare students for further exact and/or quantitatively oriented professional courses.
Lectures have the objective to explain the advantages, possibilities and different utilization of deductive (probabilistic) and inductive (statistical) judgments; to concern with probabilistic aspects of random events and random variables; to go in details through operations of random events probabilities; to describe distribution of one and two (discrete or continuous) random variables; to show possibilities of using random samples for (point and interval) estimation of most important population characteristics and for tests of their values.
Common exercises aim to concern with description and presentation of mostly used types of statistical data; to make familiar different kinds of tables and graphs; to motivate for studies by offering variety of different tasks and examples; to show possibilities of using PC for data exploration and other specific tasks.
